Feng Shui is a Chinese style of decorating helps in making your house a home. Its benefits are manifold and here are some tips on incorporating Feng Shui in your home decoration.

Dried flowers are a strict no-no in Feng Shui. You need to use only fresh flowers in the house for attracting positive energy. One more interesting thing is that NEVER keep the bathroom door and the toilet lid open! It seems that doing this helps to retain and earn wealth. If you keep the lid open you are flushing out your wealth by your own hands!

I have many friends who are not happy with the job done by their interior decorator. I suggest all of them to do one thing- do an online course to become an interior designer yourself!

There are several free and paid courses that you can take up and use the knowledge in decorating your home. What is the need of a decorator if you can do it yourself? You need to have an eye for detail and be sincere enough to follow the course till the end.

This will give you the required knowledge and equip you to decorate your house easily, what say?

How to Have a Designer Kitchen

Posted by Shue under Kitchen

The face of your kitchen is your countertop. It portrays how the rest of your kitchen is going to be. A messy countertop can mean that there is no place left to keep anything in the cabinets!

If you wish to give a designer look to your kitchen, molded kitchen drawers and the latest appliances are not enough. Reduce the number of items on your countertop and keep only those small appliances that you actually use everyday. All the others can be safely kept in the cupboards and brought out as need arises.

Tell me if this trick does not make your kitchen seem cleaner and attractive to you!

Dinner times are family times. That is when we all get together around the dining table and discuss about how the day passed.

But isn’t it sometimes irritating when you need to get up in the middle of your meal for taking some spoons for the soup? If your dining table would have drawers or a small shelf for storing these eating tools or spice shakers, wouldn’t it be great?

Whenever you buy or order a dining table as a part of your home decoration, ensure that it has at least some capacity for below-the-top storage. You will thank me for this!

Make Some Room before Decorating

Posted by Shue under Bathroom

The bathroom in our house is meant for refreshing ourselves and relaxing a bit with a hot shower. So prior to decorating it we need to do the groundwork of de-cluttering it for making some room.

Start by removing all the contents of all the cabinets and drawers and counter tops. Discard the outdated medicines and cosmetics at once. Then carefully go through each item and simply get rid of it if you are not using it since a month. Old cosmetics can cause infections too.

A messy bathroom cannot do justice to ANY amount of decoration that is done, so do a clean-up operation now!

Lots of people are unaware that the glues and finishes that are used in floor installation contain toxic synthetic formaldehyde resins. They can affect the quality of air that is circulated in the house.

To avoid this it is advisable to use non-toxic VOC sealants besides eco-friendly polishes, adhesive products and cleaners. This way you can ensure a healthy home environment and improved air quality too.

There are numerous concrete floorings available in different patterns, colors and textures that you can use. This is one kind of flooring that does not need glue or chemicals and is safe for your health.

When we are decorating our home, we are anyway making lots of changes and improvements. One such improvement is installing solar panels on the rooftop.

These solar panels work using the energy of the sun and are very handy when there is a power outage. If you wish to cut down your power bills even after home decoration, a solar based water heater is the best option. This way you can illuminate your home with new lighting fixtures and get hot water for your bath in the same costs as before!

I am happy with my solar heater, wish to try?

Home decoration usually involves buying new furniture, getting rid of old clutter and expenses too. Wouldn’t it be great if we could makeover our home in an eco-friendly way?

Green home decoration implies the use of non-toxic and durable materials and recycled products such as reusable furnishings and leftovers. Some ‘green’ materials that you can opt for are bamboo, cork and eucalyptus as they are renewable. When you use cork, you don’t need to cut trees, which is heartening. There are many choices for a green flooring too.

You must have the innate desire for an eco-friendly interior, that’s it!

The grass is greener on the other side of the fence. People residing in a quaint country side home often wish to have a feel of the big city life right in their home. This is now possible thanks to home decoration.

If you really love the city skyline, you can create a similar effect by a mural or some wonderful paint color scheme. In case you are attracted by the flashing lights and billboards in the city, you can hang framed posters of the popular Broadway productions. Remember to display these on a strategic location and install spotlights for prominence.

When you decorate your home with some personal and some professional help, you are proud of your house, and it is perfectly natural.

But problems never come invited! There might be some minor fixing that needs to be done in plumbing and lighting or painting and polishing even after you have finished decorating your house. I would suggest that all home-owners should attend classes that teach you the basics of plumbing and painting. It is easy to learn and comes with practice.

It helps you to save on a technician’s cost and satisfies you that you could fix something all on your own!
